Augustin, heir of Araze, has lived on Earth for hundreds of years. Raised by an adoptive Terran family who knew nothing of his true nature, he found there a simple kind of happiness that still binds him, in his heart, to humanity.
Yet he knows the Empire judges humans weak. So he keeps hidden the old accounts that mention the Arazians, that Earth may remain blind to certain truths until the moment he judges necessary.
A return to Araze before the appointed hour could cost him his life. His father, Tsomakar Vael’Oran, tolerates his survival — but refuses any premature upheaval of the succession.
